Lucha Libre: World Wrestling Peace Festival '96 and IWE '81

Image
IWE Cobarde & Herodes vs Isamu Teranishi & Mach Hayato (02/28/81): Great action tag match! Tons of stuff going on here. Definitely recommend this one! Ref kinda muffs the finish but it doesn't really matter. Mach Hayato vs Cobarde (03/02/81): Pretty cool stuff, paced closer to Mil in AJPW but moves similar to NJPW lucha libre at the time. joined in progress Carlos Plata & Jose Luis Mendieta vs Isamu Teranishi & Mach Hayato (04/08/81): This was off the hook! Joined in progress but fast paced action with some really crazy moments. Definitely recommend this one! Herodes vs Mighty Inoue (1981): Roy's got this listed as El Cobarde but it's Herodes. Very good stuff, Herodes is quite the the chicken shit heel. Good face/heel match with Inoue finding his openings. Exciting finish too. World Wrestling Peace Festival 06/01/96 Lady Apache & Reina Jubuki (Akira Hokuto) vs Bull Nakano & Neftali: This was Bull vs Hokuto with Lady & Neftali as help. A fun time!...

Cruising the 80's: Abdullah The Butcher vs Bruiser Brody - 04/10/81

Image
Abdullah The Butcher vs Bruiser Brody (AJPW) : I'm really glad that Abby started fighting back because early on this looked like Brody was beating up a big cartoon turtle. The Butcher was stuck on his back getting stomped on, helpless but protected by his fat layer. The Mad Man from Sudan got to his feet in the ring & snuck in a thrust to Brody's windpipe. That was the opening he needed. Next thing you know he was pulling his fork or some sharp object from his waistband. It was on! This was a fun and wild as you would hope. I'm sure that you can predict the outcome 😄 But, that doesn't mean you should skip it. All in all it's about 10 minutes of classic wrestling chaos. They really don't do brawling like this anymore. 👇👇👇 Check out more stuff you might like & click the labels below. Also more April Anarchy to come!

Cruising the 80's: Abdullah The Butcher vs Jack Brisco - 03/27/81

Image
Abdullah The Butcher vs Jack Brisco (AJPW) :  This is not a match but a chaotic spectacle in the best way. I think every once in awhile, we should watch Abdullah the Butcher vs a star such as Jack Briscoe. It serves as a type of mental reset. We are just watching simple yet charismatic wrestling. There's no real maneuvers or complex story play out. It is just simple good guy versus bad guy. Additionally, we get to see the fans go absolutely bonkers in the venue. I think this is true fan engagement. No one is needing to bring a sign, chant names or songs...the people in attendance are watching the brawl but are also a part of it. Maybe the wrestlers bump into you, or use your chair as a weapon, maybe your entire row of seats gets knocked down and scattered around the ring floor...you're right there. I think there's a lot of imitation of this but Abdullah is one of the best. So I can't say if this is better than another Abby 'match' right now but I will say this i...

Cruising the 80's: Giant Baba vs Karl Kox - 03/03/81

Image
Giant Baba vs Killer Karl Kox (All Japan) : Karl gives no fucks! He scoop slams Baba like a bag of shit and elbow drops his fragile sternum with the intention of cracking it! He looks like your gym teacher or the guy at the bowling alley. Not now but like 1971-1995 or so. First fall then we get a 2nd fall and Kox is bleeding . And gets so amped up begins smashing his head into the turn buckle... don't you wish your old gym teacher would have done this? But instead of a turn buckle, it was one of the gym lockers? Or perhaps one of the gym doors? Anyhow, he gets the 2nd fall from what nearly looks like a dead lift brain buster!! And he's still down at the start of fall #3. This is a fun match! I'm glad to see Karl Kox beating up Giant Baba! I wish wrestlers still looked like this instead of factory built shredded cardio machines. Video is about 15 minutes but the actual wrestling is less than that.
