Cruising the 80's: Brody & Mosca vs Hata & Toguchi - 01/08/80

Image
Bruiser Brody & Angelo Mosca vs Rocky Hata & Tiger Toguchi (All Japan) - More Angelo Mosca? 😋 Not really because I'm more interested in his partnership with Brody. This match was a good time. Rocky Hata & Tiger Toguchi put up a good fight. They throw a couple nice looking drop kicks. Mosca is selling for 'em. Heck even Brody is selling for them. I did NOT see that coming. That said he's not necessarily stopping And that's how it should be. No way are Rocky & Tiger on Brody's level. Still those dudes show a lot of guts standing up to that wild man. Brody does a mean looking drop kick of his own and the TV channel replays it immediately  like it was a shooting star press! This match pans out how you'd imagine and a lot of the fun is the sense of chaos created by Bruiser Brody. And that's what this bout is all about - Bruiser Brody! It's an excellent performance by him. He's selling his character and getting the energy up for a small ti...

TAJIRI - You Might Have Missed #2

Image
How are all of you guys doing? Ready for more Yoshihiro Tajiri? Yeah, me too! Let's take a look at some good stuff! Dan Severn vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri (NWA 06/24/1995) - Quick but cool UWFi style match in the middle of a baseball or football field while Tarzan Goto (Dan's next challenger) looks on. Definitely recommend checking this out if you've got a few minutes free.  Tajiri & Shinjiro Otani vs Jushin Liger & El Samurai (BJW 06/07/97) - These are 4 guys to do a hate filled Junior battle. Liger and Tajiri kicked off the animosity & it never let up. Damn, Otani brought the stiffness. Samurai and Liger responded in kind. Of course there were great high spots and power moves too. Although, Tajiri was a Big Japan talent you never would have known as his skill has always been top notch. Tajiri vs Jerry Lynn (ECW - Famcam - 04/22/99) - These two are wrestling like they're in Philly! Tajiri pops JL in the nose with a kick. It's bleeding bad by the midway poin...

Cruising the 80's: Giant Baba vs Angelo Mosca - 01/18/80

Giant Baba vs Angelo Mosca (All Japan) - I swear these aren't all going to be Baba matches! This one seemed like a good pick today though. Mosca is a guy I've heard about but never seen & per my notes there's a tag match around this time I wanted to see. This is joined in progress by three minutes. It's pretty simple old school brawling back and forth. Baba is an acquired taste. So I liked seeing his chops which Angelo sold well. The real highlight of this match is when Bruiser Brody stomps out from the back. He and Angelo beat Baba-san with a chair 😄 And that's kind of it but that's wrestling for ya! If it was all about ratings and rankings then I would say, "Save Your Time!" Wrestling is more than that and this is one of those little segments that is a lot of fun especially when I know there's another match or two where these grumpy bastards go at it again. It's about 5 minutes.

Zero One Wrestling - 2007 - Part 3

Image
Hi folks! This is the the last post for Zero One Wrestling in 2007. You're really missing out if you're not checking out this stuff. This has been an absolute revelation to me. And hey! I get it, I didn't watch Zero One for like 15+ years. A big reason is that no one talked about it. Or the internet wrestling taste makers didn't like it at the time. Screw that 😀 This is some fun smash mouth wrestling. Now that there's a wealth of wrestling posted online, this really is worth watching especially if you're into 2000's wrestling. Masato Tanaka v Kohei Sato (07/31) Good 12 minute tournament match. The arm work section kinda lost me for a little bit in the middle. Clearly it was just to eat up some time. They started going for big moves and this picked up in a big way. Sato's Falcon Arrow from the middle rope was sick for instance! Re-watch: So I took my advice and watched this again knowing that the arm section was padding and there's awesome stuff aft...

Cruising the 80's: Giant Baba vs Umanosuke Ueda - 12/07/82

Image
Giant Baba vs Umanosuke Ueda (All Japan) - It's pretty funny that Giant Baba maligned FMW and other promotions as garbage wrestling in the 90's. This bout from 1982 with Ueda is darn close to those sleazy 90's indies. Firstly, Ueda is probably one of the more slimey looking wrestlers you'll find, in the best way. He's doughy, pale and has tights that  a Silver Age Batman villain would wear - Piss yellow with black stripes going down the side. I'd imagine the villain's name is "The Shit Breather." To top it off, he has bleached blonde hair. I'm not sure if he's the first Japanese wrestler to do the blonde hair but I feel he set the standard for everyone later like Hiro Saito, Tatsutoshi Goto, Mr. Danger Matsunaga and others. But I'm getting away from the "garbage wrestling aspect." A great majority of this match is Ueda attacking Baba with weapons. First, it's a kendo stick, then a chair and finally a spike/nail...where it...

Zero One Wrestling - 2007 - Part 2

Image
Hi kind folks! We're back with more Zero One 2007! Helluva start last post. Let's see if the good times keep rolling! Masato Tanaka vs Yoshihito Sasaki (05/27) -This is precisely what I wanted with this matchup. These two guys who have the energy, intensity and toughness to break bricks with their bare hands. They gave no quarter and expected none in return. Korakuen Hall brings out the best in people and this was no different. Hard chops, harder elbows and lariats so stiff it knock a T-800 down. Yeah Masato Tanaka is a known great but Yoshihito Sasaki doesn't get enough love. If you're a Tanaka fan then you NEED to see this match and you'll probably be a new Sasaki fan by the end. Classic match HIGH RECOMMENDATION. Steve Corino & CW Anderson vs Tajiri & Masato Tanaka (06/20) - Flashback to ECW & early Zero One! I had to watch this one. And it was worthy of being associated with ECW. All the guys were still in very good shape so they showed great energ...

Zero One Wrestling - 2007 - Part 1

Happy New Year! If you follow me on PWO then you know I have an interest in Zero One Wrestling. In my own wrestling research, I've found it difficult to get a good read on the promotion. Cagematch has a couple reviews here and there. I would say there's only one person on there that I trust their opinion and taste. So I thought I'd check it out myself by going through what's available online and cherry picking matches that I think look good. Originally I was going to watch a few matches per show but that was way too much. Again, if you've read my other posts here or on PWO, grandpa bought a bunch of DVDs that he's gotta watch. Good news is that I do have a DVD for Zero One and will be covering that later. So I can justify watching a some other stuff online. Anyhow, let's start 2007 Zero One Wrestling! Mammoth Sasaki & Daisuke Sekimoto v Ryoji Sai & Yoshihito Sasaki (01/19) - 15 minutes of hard hitting, fast paced wrestling! My favorite pairing was S...
