Wrestling Dream Battles

AAA I found a great source for 2009 lucha libre and have been digging into that for a bit. I've been watching AAA since there's less available than CMLL and thus an easier project to devote time to. Also the energy & vibe is much more American style wrestling so it's a super easy thing to watch. It reminds me of ECW in a way with many of the story lines and segments intertwining. In general, I've liked the matches with Nicholas elements Millonario who most know as Psicosis. The dude still has it! He and Joe Lider do all kinds of hardcore spots like ECW/FMW never died. I've been digging the mini's too with Octagoncito being a standout amongst standouts. Super Fly is a guy that is impressive as well in terms of high flying average sized luchadores. AAA seems to focus on their heavyweights and although many don't do a lot for me from an in ring perspective, Mesias (Ricky Banderas) is really over with the crowds, he's got a great look & actually wres...

Antonio Inoki vs Tatsumi Fujinami (03/19/82 NJPW) : Roughly 15 minutes of grappling & more grappling. If you want to see technical wrestling, this is your ticket. A technical duel between master & student.  Definitely recommend this one! Fujinami has worked his way into my top 3 favorite wrestlers of all-time. Let's look at the other top matches of the month. NJPW Tiger Mask vs Villano III (06/24/81): Amazing technical encounter. Two greats engaged in a battle of wit & will. A classic bout - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Vader vs Riki Choshu (06/27/89): Vader gets his mask ripped and they are looking to destroy one another! THIS is what you want with these two. Awesome ending too. Joshi is something I'd loved but eventually moved away from... thinking I'd seen all that I had wanted to see. It took me long time to come back to it but the blog has definitely reconnected me. I know some folks are not as interested in it as much the men's stuff but, I think you're missing out. Devil Masami vs Chigusa Nagayo (AJW) : This was a great match with high energy & high intensity. It begins with a technical orientation but escalates into a power battle as Devil takes over. This Crush Gal won't quit and rattles Devil with great suplexes and pinning holds. Masami gets frustrated and brings out the weapons and introduces a bit of anarchy into this April match. Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs Mika Takahashi & Kaoru Maeda (AJW): Wow! This was a spirited sprint! This was a beginners style tag match and had plenty of scoop slams & drop kicks (not a bad thing). There were some great arm drags and rope running segments as well. There's one especially sick back breaker - keep an eye out for that one! Yeah, this was a lot of fun. These women brought the intensity and desire to win their novice level bout so the relatively simple moves were a perfect fit. It showed that their efforts were more impressive than their skill. Hi folks! A kind soul has posted more Big Japan Wrestling and dammit! I'm going to watch it. Hopefully you find something cool to watch from what I've reviewed. 01/07 Chikako Shiratori & Kiyoko Ichiki vs. Chihiro Nakano & Marcela - Joshi in Big Japan! This was very fun wrestling. Shiratori & Kiyoko Ichiki reminded me of Mita & Shimoda. This got good when Marcela got tag in because her & Nakano started doing double team moves. Looking forward to more! Ikuto Hidaka vs. Fantastik - Hidaka, I know. Fantastik is new to me but, I like him. He did this dive that was super dangerous looking... and super cool!! Definitely want to see more of him. These two did a really fun fireworks action match. There were lots of awesome aerial moves and moves off the Irish whip. Fun bit of lucharesu. BJW is on a roll! Super Delfin vs. Minoru Fujita - Super Delfin is in BJW!? Looks like the show is in Osaka so they booked him. Cool! He dominated Fujita early with arm locks. Fuji...

I really dig Joshi puroresu from the 1980's & the 90's. Bull Nakano is one of my favorites but, I never got to see any of her work in the 80's. I started at 1990 with her feud with Aja Kong & Bison Kimura. It's been a long time coming but I finally got to check out the beginning of her career. In the interest of getting a good sampling, I opted for more matches rather than all of the very best bouts. But to make time, I chose matches 15 minutes or less. The exception is the 04/08/86 match which I have on DVD. Everything else I found pretty easily online. OK let's go! Bull vs Yumi Ogura (03/17/84) - Bull is not yet corrupted by the evil forces of chaos! She looks like a normal, unassuming girl here in 1984 and goes by her birth name, Keiko. How sweet!
