Welcome!
You might know me from Pro Wrestling Only where I've been a member since 2016. I've had two blogs there. "G. Badger's Puro + More" as well as "The Further Adventures of Puro + More" as TheBean. Wrestling Dream Battles is an evolution of those blogs. In addition to my multi-post projects, I want to provide watch guides and recommendation lists for new fans of classic Japanese wrestling. Additionally, I'd like to get into the "what-if's" of old-school wrestling - what if things were booked differently? What if a certain wrestler would have stayed around? These are things I've explored on "Puro + More" over the years. Here I want to dig my teeth into these topics independent of the PWO site.
That said, I'm not going away from "The Further Adventures of Puro + More" if you're a reader there. That will be the place for one-off blog posts where I will do quick spotlights on wrestlers, one-shot reviews of shows or DVDs and the like. If you're looking for the in depth wrestling reviews, recommendations, guides then Wrestling Dream Battles is the place 🙂
If you're a new reader, my perspective on wrestling is that it's meant to be fun. I see too many people taking the in-ring product too seriously. I find that dry, academic take on wrestling to be a bummer. Don't get me wrong, I want to pick apart matches, programs and angles to see what makes them tick also. I can do it with a laugh and a joke though! I'm watching wrestling as a fan who wants to get drawn into the stories and into the action. When I write, I want to transfer that excitement to the audience. I want you to get pumped up for watching more wrestling. If I'm not enthusiastic about something, I want you to know why. I try to give context to why a match or angle didn't work for me. I'm just one person so, you might feel differently about it than me.
My goal is get others excited about old-school Japanese wrestling. I want to give people a nudge in a new direction who are in a rut with their fandom. This blog is meant to get people who only know of modern New Japan Pro Wrestling into classic puro. It's to get fans of AEW and WWE looking back at old-school Ring of Honor and perhaps bridging that to Japanese wrestling. I want to help preserve great wrestling. I want to help keep these wrestling dream battles of the past alive.
