Hi folks! Wrapping up March Mayhem with a full show review of BJW 03/31/15.
•Yuko Miyamoto & Abdullah Kobayashi & Jaki Numazawa v Brahman Shu & Brahman Kei & Toshiyuki Sakuda - Fun comedy match. I'm guessing Yuko Miyamoto earned a night off.
•Masato Inaba & Kazuki Hashimoto & Masaya Takahashi v Tsutomu Oosugi & Hercules Senga & Heddi French - This was a quick, fun all action match. I feel like it was edited down a little bit. Tsutomu Oosugi & Hercules Senga were impressive. Have to keep my eyes open for them in other BJW shows.
•Kankuro Hoshino v Ryuichi Sekine *Barbed wire Board Barbed wire Weapon Death Match* This starts out with them wearing kick pads wrapped in barb wire. There's a bat and a chair wrapped in the wire. Plus there's barb wire boards in the corners. This is an easy recommendation! Both guys did an excellent job with their move selection and pacing. Eleven minutes of death match wrestling... emphasis on wrestling. They used the weapons to elevate the match rather than be constrained by them. RECOMMENDED
•Ryuji Ito v Masashi Takeda *Fluorescent Light Tubes Death Match* This was a perfectly acceptable light tube match. They did all the moves you've come to expect. They went through everything at an even pace until the finish, where it actually seemed like they were in a competition. Sure there's some sick spots but nothing felt meaningful or exciting.
•Isami Kodaka v Takumi Tsukamoto *Ladder Death Match* This was a lot of fun. It's a 15 minute ladder match except pin or submission wins it. They used the ladder but also did pro wrestling. It's not revolutionary in terms of ladder matches and you'll see better ones in WWE or ROH but, you'll be entertained and it'll but a smile on your face. And that's all I was looking for!
•Atsushi Maruyama & Ryuichi Kawakami & Hideyoshi Kamitani v Yuji Okabayashi & Yuji Hino & Shinobu: A really good 6 man match. Hard hitting from Okabayashi & Hino - the widest tag team ever. Kawakami was really trying to prove his meddle so that's a good story point. Yeah, this was enjoyable wrestling and only 12 minutes. Watched this a couple times.
•Daisuke Sekimoto v Shuji Ishikawa *BJW Strong Heavyweight Championship Match* This is complicated. I am conflicted. This is a very good but flawed match to me. People on CageMatch have give this 10's and great recommendations. I think they are missing big flaws though. Ishikawa is too stiff too early. He does a couple nasty moves on the floor but they are not properly followed up on - poor psychology & ring logic. If you edited these out the match gets better. Finally this goes longer than it needs to and perhaps the wrong guy wins. This could end around 17-18 minutes with the big move & this would have been awesome. TLDR: This would have been an amazing match if they had used their smarts & edited it down. That said, I liked this match. I watched it 4 times yesterday. I wrote a ton more in analyzing what I had problems with. The match improved each time...perhaps out of familiarity. It is worth your time for sure. Some people really dig the match. Some folks, appreciate the stiffness for the sake of stiffness. I might have been one of those guys back when I bought the DVD. I'm not as much now but I still RECOMMEND IT you're interested, BJW has this up on their YouTube page so, watch it for yourself!
