March Mayhem: Andre the Giant vs Killer Khan - 03/19/82

Andre the Giant vs Killer Khan (NJPW): This is two big dudes beating each other up! Well, Andre is more than big. The dude is a giant! He looks like a wildman with his shaggy hair and beard. Khan is shaken up but he's not backing down. This is a bunch of fun. Andre & Khan bring a lot of character & energy to this match. It's part of the MSG League which I think is a precursor to the G1 Climax. Also I would recommend watching the Andre vs Inoki "match" from 03/26/82. It's super short yet exciting plus it adds more drama to the Andre vs Khan feud.

Masa Fuchi & Tiger Mask vs Hiro Saito & Shunji Takano (AJPW) : Fun stuff! Shunji's German suplex looks a lot like Takayama's because of his height. That was sick! Enjoyed Fuchi punch Saito in the head from the mount position. He look crazed. Tiger Misawa is really in his element here. AJPW - 1986 - Jan. & Feb. - Tiger Mask, Tenryu, Choshu, Mil & more

I'm trucking along through my All Japan DVD sets. For reference, these are Samurai Classics episodes. I have the first six months of 1986. It's nowhere complete. In fact, they don't show Riki Choshu. So, I did go online for any/all of those. After my DVDs are done, I'm going to wing it with stuff I find online. I'm pretty sure most of this is up on the 'tube. OK enough rambling! You're here to find out about some old school AJPW! Tiger Mask vs Mil Mascaras (01/02) - Good on paper but bad in reality. That badness is due to Mil. If Misawa had a tell-all book, he would have a story about this match. It reminded me of Mick Foley's recounting of his match with Mil. No it's not the worst thing but it ambles, Mil doesn't seem to know what's up, and he couldn't care less. Cruising the 80's: Riki Choshu vs Tenryu - 09/03/86

Riki Choshu vs Genichiro Tenryu (AJPW) : I watched this a long time ago. I read my old review and I think I appreciate it more now. Its a very good to great match. They did a lot of great fighting here. Tenryu switched his offense up using older maneuvers to re-injure Choshu's ribs. Choshu was tough and pulled out a couple moves that were pretty cool. One that I felt was a decade ahead of its time. Personally, Tenryu seemed to have a better performance but Riki interestingly seemed to be doing better character work. The Funks: Terry & Dory Funk Jr. In AJPW

Dory Funk Jr. passed away recently. I wanted to put together a guide for people interested in watching his matches. He is one of my favorite wrestlers so there's much more I could recommend. Some of these recommendations are pretty darn old...almost 20 years. Also I am leaving my old star ratings. Also I'm including some Terry singles matches as well since both are wrestling legends. Thank you Dory and Terry! Rest in Peace. Jack Brisco vs. Dory Funk Jr. (01/24/74) ***** This is possibly one of the top 5 greatest matches that I've seen. People talk about Kyoko/Toyota or Kobashi/Kawada doing hour draws well, my friends this is the dope right here. Excellent mat wrestling for an hour with each fall being a little bit different in style and in story.
