Cruising the 80's: Stan Hansen & Bass vs Terry Funk & Tenryu - 04/01/83

Stan Hansen & Ron Bass vs Terry Funk & Genichiro Tenryu (AJPW): Fuck! This match is off the hook. For instance, Tenryu does a Flair flip, runs the apron and smack the shit out of Stan Hansen. From that point, Stan is on the rampage. Heaven knows Terry & Tenryu are down for a fight. I'm pretty sure Stan & Terry got a couple legit punches in there. I haven't said anything about Ron Bass but he's an excellent #2. Our baby face team gets little respite when he's in the ring. This is 10-12 minutes with a frenzied pace. This is what you want! Check the pic below, that's Stan with a jumping knee drop! Solid recommendation.

Genichiro Tenryu vs Umanosuke Ueda (All Japan) - I promise I'm not going to focus only on guys like Ueda & Tiger Toguchi but, damn! These guys are really overlooked and deserve your attention. This bout is a blast, for example. Tenryu takes Ueda's kendo stick right from the start and is cracking him over the head with it. Then these two are just smacking each other around with chairs and fisticuffs for 5 fevered minutes. Next, the camera man wildly spins trying to capture a younger Tiger Jeet Singh rushing to the ring. He attacks Tenryu and only then does ref Joe Higuchi end the match in a DQ 😆 It should have been thrown out from the start! Haha, I'm glad he didn't though! Both guys are bleeding . Tenryu is bathed in the red stuff. The match itself is 5 minutes but the other 6 minutes of 11 minutes is unhinged fighting in the ring, in the crowd and on the way to the locker room. 👇👇👇Click on the labels below for more reviews you might enjoy!

March Mayhem: Dragon Gate vs ROH - 03/30/06

Hi folks! More mayhem and a little bit more of March! We're looking at the Dragon Gate Challenge show from ROH Wrestling from 03/30/06. Ryo Saito vs Jimmy Yang - Very good Jr. wrestling at the ROH speed. It was very enjoyable and an easy watch for any modern wrestling fan. Cool ass finishing move too! AJ Styles & Matt Sydal vs Dragon Kid & Genki Horiguch i - Holy snap! I've seen this a few times and it's still some badass stuff! AJ just muscles the Dragon Gate guys. It looks so uncooperative and great. This feels like a match instead of a routine. Additionally this fight told a story and actually felt like ROH vs Dragon Gate since both teams were baby faces & popular. This one remains a classic  to me. CIMA, Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino vs Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Jack Evans - This was crazy 80 mph wrestling. The finishing segment was straight bananas. Roddy Piper & Dick Slater vs Giant Baba & Genichiro Tenryu (AJPW) : JIP, 6 minutes of super fun pro wrestling action. Hot Rod & Dirty Dick Slater are a great high energy team. They worked so well with Baba and made him look great. Dream pairing with Piper vs Tenryu, we get a brief but satisfying segment with them. March Mayhem: Sekimoto vs Ishikawa and more - 03/31/15

Hi folks! Wrapping up March Mayhem with a full show review of BJW 03/31/15 . •Yuko Miyamoto & Abdullah Kobayashi & Jaki Numazawa v Brahman Shu & Brahman Kei & Toshiyuki Sakuda - Fun comedy match. I'm guessing Yuko Miyamoto earned a night off. •Masato Inaba & Kazuki Hashimoto & Masaya Takahashi v Tsutomu Oosugi & Hercules Senga & Heddi French - This was a quick, fun all action match. I feel like it was edited down a little bit. Tsutomu Oosugi & Hercules Senga were impressive. Have to keep my eyes open for them in other BJW shows. •Kankuro Hoshino v Ryuichi Sekine *Barbed wire Board Barbed wire Weapon Death Match* This starts out with them wearing kick pads wrapped in barb wire. There's a bat and a chair wrapped in the wire. Plus there's barb wire boards in the corners. This is an easy recommendation! Both guys did an excellent job with their move selection and pacing. Early 2000's Puroresu You Might Have Missed

I haven't seen it all but contrary to popular belief, early 2000's Japanese wrestling doesn't suck. Is it different than the greatest decade in modern wrestling (1990s) ? Yup but there's plenty of great wrestling to enjoy. I think the inter-promotional stuff is very interesting and although it would stay a part of puro, it was best when it was fresh & new. You might be familiar with a couple of these but there's a bunch that I think flew under the radar or have been forgotten about: Curry Man, CIMA & Super Boy vs Minoru Fujita, Shiryu II & Jody Fleisch (M-Pro 12/21/99) A few days short of 2000 but I'm counting it!
