Cruising the 80's: Dory Funk Jr. vs Jumbo Tsuruta - 12/03/86

-

Dory Funk Jr. vs Jumbo Tsuruta (AJPW) - We only get a third of this but this is slow boiling old school technical match that I would have loved to see in full. Now don't get me wrong, I try to watch stuff under 15 minutes like this TV version especially when looking online. Again, I am trying to get thru my DVD backlog. That said, this was really good and they work a mean headlock match. They are knocking the sweat from each other with their elbows & chops. I dug this one!

Dory's an absolute master in pacing and maybe the best ever frankly. He doesn't have a great look or a ton of athletic moves but he knows what to do and when to do it better than anyone. And he knows his limitations. He's in my top 25 favorite wrestlers. Jumbo too.

Jushin Liger vs Pegasus Kid (11/01) : Oh yes! This was great stuff wrestled at an urgent pace. Each guy was going for the win whether it was from a big move or a quick pinning maneuver. LOVED THIS. Not overwrought or cliche. RECOMMENDED Click the labels below for more stuff you'd like to see!

ROH You Might Have Missed: Go Shiozaki vs Austin Aries

Go Shiozaki vs Austin Aries (6th Anniversary - 02/23/08): Holy shit! This was awesome! Aries knows how to work with NOAH guys. The size difference made for some fantastic counters & reversals. The story is the smaller Austin chipping away at the larger Go. I'm glad that they don't pretend that Aries is the same size as the NOAH native. But don't misunderstand, they still beat the crap outta each other! This is exactly what I hoped for with this bout. It's a hard hitting match with great, great pacing. It's a match that reminded me why I love ROH. And this one is a classic - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 👇👇👇 Click the labels below for more stuff you'd like!

Psycho September: Abdullah The Butcher vs The Sheik

Abdullah The Butcher vs The Sheik (Cage Match - TWA 1991): Hot damn! This is what Psycho September is all about! Sheik is cutting up the ref before Abby gets in the ring. We get bloody carving in the ring. Sabu throws a metal trash can over top of the cage. Sheik caves the bin in over Abdullah's bald head. Eventually there's a winner but things don't end. In fact, things get crazier! Sabu is in the mix, Kevin Sullivan comes out, Terry Funk is fighting. Sheik gets a sign off a wall or something. Abby is choking a camera man. Some other dude gets it! Highly Recommended mayhem!

Psycho September: Abdullah The Butcher vs Kevin Sullivan

Abdullah The Butcher vs Kevin Sullivan (10/02/93 - ECW Bloodfest - Steel Cage Match) : Nice violent stuff! My favorite bit was when Woman comes out to stop Abby from choking Sullivan. Then the Madman from Sudan goes after the vivacious valet; her eyes rolling back in her head and Kevin Sullivan whacks the Butcher with a chair!! Damn you can hear it smack his broad back like a Ric Flair chop! Inside the ring is the good but standard "use the cage as a weapon" fighting. Taz comes out and throws a metal briefcase in there to help Sullivan. Then it gets really good again 😁 Fun, fun stuff.

New Japan 1990: Chono & Muto vs Wild Samoan & Yokozuna

Masa Chono & Keiji Muto vs Wild Samoan & Great Kokena (Yokozuna) (07/19):  Very good to great heel/face tag match. This had excellent pacing, teases and payoffs. It is probably pretty close to an American style tag match but that doesn't diminish this at all. 1990 is that time where I feel the U.S., Japan & Mexico were on the same level of athleticism and quality of work especially with younger talent.
